Full Caucus to Hold Strategic Planning Retreat in Cambridge Bay

IQALUIT, Nunavut (December 1, 2021) - The Legislative Assembly’s Full Caucus will meet in Cambridge Bay from December 6 to 10, 2021, to hold a strategic planning Retreat.

Premier Akeeagok has also extended an invitation to members of the Nunavut Tunngavik Board to join the Full Caucus on the first day of the Retreat. This is the first time that all MLAs and Nunavut’s Inuit Organizations have been invited to collaboratively take part in the strategic planning leading to the development of the Government of Nunavut’s mandate.

“As we undertake the important work of defining a mandate statement for our term of office, my Cabinet and I are committed to consulting closely with all Members of the Legislative Assembly and Inuit organizations in order to develop a framework that represents a strong and united voice for Nunavut,” said Premier Akeeagok. “I anticipate that we will engage in a robust and wide-ranging dialogue about our shared priorities for our territory.”

Caucus Chair Joe Savikataaq said, “One of the defining features of our non-partisan, consensus style of government in Nunavut is the opportunity for all Members to deliberate as equals. Having participated in previous planning Retreats, I very much appreciate their importance and value.”

Speaker Tony Akoak said, “This meeting will mark the first time that all Members have had the opportunity to gather together outside of the capital since the beginning of the pandemic. We look forward to the opportunity to also meet with community leaders and residents.”
