Size of Executive Council

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 13, 2023) – Chair of Full Caucus Joe Savikataaq today issued the following statement: 

Members of the Legislative Assembly met as a Full Caucus following the Ministerial resignation that took place last week. By convention, the Full Caucus decides how many Ministers should be on Cabinet, being mindful of such considerations as the need to ensure that the accountability of the executive branch of government to the legislative branch is maintained, which is why there are always more Regular Members of the Legislative Assembly than there are Ministers. The decision was made to keep the Cabinet at its current size and not to select a new Minister. It is the Premier’s prerogative to announce Ministerial portfolio shuffles.
