Standing Committees Announce Schedule for Televised Hearings

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 16, 2021) - The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Oversight of Government Operations and Public Accounts will hold a televised hearing from June 21-22, 2021, on the most recent annual report of the Representative for Children and Youth. “The standing committee’s televised hearing will provide an opportunity for Members to give careful consideration to the recommendations of the Representative for Children and Youth,” said Committee Chair John Main, MLA for Arviat North-Whale Cove.

The Standing Committee on Legislation will hold a televised hearing from June 23-24, 2021, on Bill 55, An Act to Amend the Property Assessment and Taxation Act. The bill can be downloaded from the following location:

“The televised hearing will provide an opportunity for the sponsoring Minister to present the proposed legislation and for invited stakeholders to provide their views to the standing committee,” said Chairperson Main.

The hearings commence at 1:30pm on Monday, June 21, 2021. The hearings will be held in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly. As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Visitors’ Gallery remains closed. The hearings will be televised on local community cable stations and direct-to-home satellite service on the Bell (channel 513) and Shaw (channel 289 - classic / channel 489 - new lineup) networks. The hearings will be live-streamed at: http://video.isilive.ca/nunavut/. Residents of Iqaluit may also listen to the live radio broadcast of the proceedings on the following FM channels: Floor: 92.5 / Inuktitut: 94.7 / English: 102.1.
