Johnny Ningeongan was elected on October 27, 2008, to represent the constituency of Nanulik in the 3rd Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. The constituency includes the communities of Coral Harbour and Chesterfield Inlet. 

Mr. Ningeongan served five terms as Mayor of Coral Harbour between 1990 and 2005. He is a former President of the Nunavut Association of Municipalities, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Nunavut Development Corporation and a former member of the Board of Directors of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated. 

Mr. Ningeongan was born in Coral Harbour. He and his wife Elizabeth have three children: Faith, May and Johnny Jr. Mr. Ningeongan is a life-long hunter.
