About the Assembly

John Ningark was elected in a by-election held on March 2, 2009, to represent the constituency of Akulliq in the 3rd Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. The constituency includes the communities of Repulse Bay and Kugaaruk.

Mr. Ningark previously served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories from 1989-1999. Prior to being elected to the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, Mr. Ningark served on a number of bodies, including the Board of Directors of the Nunavut Development Corporation, the Labour Standards Board, the Social Assistance Appeal Board and the Contracting Appeals Board established under the Government of Nunavut’s Nunavummi Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuuti (NNI) Policy.

Mr. Ningark was born in Repulse Bay. He and his wife Celine have six children: George, Bobby, Alex, Louise, Vincent, Stella and Russell.
